Xempus founder and current CEO of the pension & life insurance platform Martin Bockelmann is joining the Supervisory Board; Tobias Wann, experienced scale-up CEO with a successful track record leading platform businesses in Germany, Europe and the US, is taking over as CEO of one of Germany’s leading InsureTechs.
Munich, July 16, 2021 – Today Xempus announced a change in its leadership team. Xempus founder and current CEO Martin Bockelmann (44) is moving to the Supervisory board and Tobias Wann (49) is taking over as CEO of the InsureTech on August 1.
“Together with an exceptional team, we have built Xempus into the leading independent pension & life insurance platform in Germany over the last few years. We now want to take Xempus to the next level and Tobias is the ideal candidate to be leading the company during this exciting time of fast growth. Tobias’ experience in scaling companies will be invaluable over the coming years. I am looking forward to my new role as founder and main shareholder on the Xempus Supervisory board where I will continue to look after our largest clients as well as strategic partnerships,” explains Martin Bockelmann.
Xempus’ growth plan includes expansion into additional pension & life insurance segments such as company health insurance, occupational disability, and private pension provision. In addition to growth in Germany, Xempus has set its sights on international expansion.
New CEO Tobias Wann explains: “In Germany alone, the pension & life insurance market is worth 100 billion euros annually, and 2,500 billion euros annually worldwide. Private and corporate pension & life insurance provision will continue to grow in importance – especially in view of rising life expectancy in most developed countries. Independent software-as-a-service platforms like Xempus can add tremendous value by connecting end customers, insurance agents and life insurers, while making the process of buying and managing policies as simple as possible. We want to build on the incredible success in Germany to date and bring Xempus’ unique corporate-focused approach to pension & life insurance to other markets.”
Tobias Wann has extensive management and scale up experience. Prior to Xempus, he was CEO of the @Leisure Group in Amsterdam, a leading rental platform for vacation homes in Europe, in which Axel Springer SE and OYO Hotels & Homes, among others, were investors. From 2011 to 2015, he was Vice President and General Manager for HomeAway (now part of the Expedia Group). Tobias was also a Director at the publicly listed US company VeriSign for ten years and Co-Founder and CEO of 1GlobalPlace AG, which was later sold to VeriSign.
As a graduate in business administration (BA), he started his career at R+V Versicherung and also completed a degree in economics at the University of Witten/Herdecke.
“We have an outstanding team of more than 150 employees and are financed for the long term with over 60 million euros. Xempus is ideally positioned for the next stage of growth,” said Lars Hinrichs, Chairman of the Supervisory Board and Xempus investor. “And I am really pleased to have Tobias Wann on board as the new CEO and Martin Bockelmann on the Supervisory Board.”
